Official Safety Brief

Since it's already Tuesday, and everyone's had sufficient time to misbehave, I will now give the resident student population the Official NU Daily Classic Norwich University Safety Brief.

"Don't Do Stupid Shit. It's stupid."

"Don't Do Anything Your Cadre Will Read About in the News."

"Don't add to or subtract from the population at large."

And from last Thursday's Jackman speech,

"It's called drinking after driving. Don't Do It." (Thank you: VSM/SGM)

Funny, I thought it was the other way around ...

Leave your favorite safety brief advice imparted to you (or invented by you) in the comments section. Everyone's cadre had some good ones ...

These safety brief excerpts were collected from the past four years of stellar Norwich University leadership, the Norwich University Corps of Cadets, your favorite WebMistress, and of course, by viewers like you.

My favorite hallway meeting was after our fake recognition. Our company commander asked if any of us were going to kill ourselves because we didn't get recognized. One of my smart-ass rook buddies raised his hand. The CC put him on suicide watch for the night. He had to go around every hour to everyone's room to check up on them. Then, slide an index card under the CC's door to let him know everyone was still alive...classic!

I tuned out a lot of what my Drill said, since it was VERY repetitive...and it all started with "So help me gawd, people..."

At AIT in Texas, my 1SG would talk for 20 minutes about drinking and driving and doing stupid shit, but my CO would always give us the one liner, "No glove, no love, Rock Steady Soldier Medics"

Said by our conductor, just before rehersing a really fast, really tough section of music (in the Youth Orchestra I was in in High School):

"You may now fasten your seatbelts..."

We had a few cadets in 92-93 get demerits and tours for jumping out of the top floor windows of Wilson into the snow facility ops. piled against the dorms. The cadet leadership explained the reasons behid the excessive tours because the offending cadets were "endangering the life of a cadet". Check out the yearbooks from that time. The pics are there...or I can email them to you.

That must be like getting an Article 15 for "damage to government property" when you get a sunburn ...

Pictures would be sweet.

My favourite was LtCol Timmy saying "Right now is the most wonderful time of the year...9 mo's later could be the most horrible time of the year."
